Q44 aspires to develop an artist-driven environment where brave players can learn & grow whilst creating stimulating, thought-provoking and accessible theatre.

Artistic Director Gabriella Rose-Carter is an alumna of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute – New York. After an extensive education and career in New York, Gabriella returned to Australia to continue her acting career and to develop and nurture actors through education. Fast becoming one of Melbourne’s most respected and sought after acting coaches, Gabriella created and founded her own space for education under the name of Q44.

Gabriella has had the honour of working with and learning from some of the worlds leading acting professionals, including Larry Moss, Jean-Louis Rodrigue and Ellen Burstyn. Ms Carter was invited by Ellen Burstyn to become a permanent observer of the Actors Studio in New York in 2013.

“You are a living example of Lee’s work. I’ve loved seeing and working with you.”

Our mission is tell stories about the human condition. We want these stories to be accessible and to resonate with a wide audience. It is our goal to produce plays of artistic integrity and to present them with skill, artistry and humanity.  Currently Q44 provides actors with extensive training opportunities and it is our intention to increase access to training as the company develops.

As a young man, renowned American playwright, John Patrick Shanley observed Life while he rode the Q44 bus from the Bronx to Queens. He realised it had no last stop and that it goes on forever.

“The Q44 is life. Miss it and you miss life.”

– John Patrick Shanley
